The Wahine Series wrapped up tonight with lots of excitement for the spectators, the boat crews and the wahines on the helms. TGI reporter Dennis Fujimoto tells you all about it here > Read all about it. Get the results of race #3 here. See who won the series by clicking here. Joe Sager took some photos from the golf course. See them here. This series was lots of fun as it always is. Are we glad it's over girls?

Ayla Millett and Lindsey Vail duked it out in the second race of the Wahine Series; Lindsey (MALIHINI) finished first but Ayla (FAST COMPANY) got the phrf win. Both girls sailed a great race and the competition was tight for the entire eight-boat fleet. Joe Sager got some great shots from the lighthouse of the first outside turn. Dennis Fujimoto wrote a great story in The Garden Island. The after-race party was enjoyed by all and everyone is looking forward to Race #3 on 8/26. Results

Tricia Mattson from the Riverview Yacht Club in Toledo Ohio was proud to tell us that she was only the eighth woman ever allowed membership in their club and was happy to make this burgee exchange with NYC. Vice Commodore Terry Wells did the honors. Tricia and friends Kevin, Fred and Candy Powell partied with us at NYC after the first race of the Wahine Series. The Riverview YC WEBSITE is a lot of fun. These folks most definitely have a good time. Take a look.

The Wahine Series got off to a great start on Thursday (8/12) with eight boats in the field and a wahine on the helm of every one of them. The girls did a great job and had a great time as well. Lindsey Vail on MALIHINI's helm brought home the win. Read the story HERE. Joe Sager took some photos. Find them HERE. See the Race Results here. Next race in this series is Thursday August 19.

The Horse & Pony Series finished in a flurry. The wind was blowing 15 to 20 knots. OZone broke a backstay and did a quick fix with a spinnaker halyard but DNF'd after lap one. A protest flag flew at #7 on the last horse lap. The ponies all went to the wrong mark and only two of them managed to go around the right mark and score. What a hoot! Horse & Pony #3 was very exciting.  Read all about it in The Garden Island's story by Dennis Fujimoto. Joe Sager took some great photos. Check 'um out here. Here are the race results. See some more photos of the race, the pony race and the clubhouse party after the race in the photo album. Fast Company took first in both the Horse and Pony in this one. Race #4 on 7/22 is the last race in this series. Stay tuned.

Horse & Pony Series Race #2 was close, close, close! Not only the horse race, but the pony race was very competitive. #2 ended with Fast Company and Malihini tied for first place (combined H&P points) and in to-date series points Speedy and OZone are tied for second place. This series is FUN for both competitors and spectators. Read all about it!   Race Results   Photo Album  (Mahalo Joe Sager for some great shots!)

The Very Popular Horse & Pony Series got off to a good start with five horses (the big boats) on the start line in a 15-20 knot breeze. As soon as the horse race was finished each boat sent one of their crew to grab a pony (Laser) and off they went on a race of their own. When all was done, the horse race points were added to the pony place scores for the final score of each horse. See those results here. Joe Sager sent a few photos and the ponies were shot from far away. See the photo album here. Read all about it here.

The Junior Invitational Series ended with race #4 in blustery 25 knot Trade Winds and bumpy seas. The competing boats were loaded up with "rail meat" and a large group of spectators got to watch quite a show. Joe Sager took pictures from the lighthouse while Sea Peterson shot from the golf course so be sure to check out the photo album. Elaine Kubota (OZone) treated the Juniors and crews to pizza and cake at the clubhouse party (pictures here).  Race Results    Series Summary    Read all about it. Memorial Day Race to Hanalei is a Nawiliwili Yacht Club tradition that goes back to the club's beginning in 1978. We used to have a Prindle fleet that would start one hour after the big boats so they would all finish at about the same time. Don Bogowitz, on Steve Layne's Prindle 19, FAST LAYNE, started with the big boats in this one and finished an hour and 10 minutes before the first monohull. It was nearly a photo finish between OZone, who had the lead, and Lelele, who snuck by OZone at the end to finish 3 seconds ahead of her. This race served as Leg 1 of the Around-The-Island Race that continued on Sunday and Monday to finish at Nawiliwili, where it all started. Ten boats raced to Hanalei and six of them continued on around. OS#3 Photo Album  ATI Photo Album  |  OS#3 Race Results  |  ATI Race Results  |  ATI Summary  |  Perpetual Trophy

Rum Race #7 and the Rum Series are pau. It was a fun series with lots of wind to race in and a very close point race between the two Olson 30s, OZone and Fast Company. Read all about it here. Get Race #7's results here and see some photos here. Check out the race entries here. And finally, get the Series Points Summary by clicking here.

The Gene Wells Memorial Series; the first series of 2010 was mostly windy and cold. The six races were exciting and  the competition was stiff. Find all of the race results and photos on the Racing page. See the series summary HERE.

NYC Opening Day; We're back! What a FUN day! We all met at the clubhouse at 11am and enjoyed the most wonderful Mexican Brunch prepared by Party Chair Marcie Millett. YUM! This girl can COOK! The first race of the new season got started at 1:30pm so the skippers and crew went to the boats and the rest of us went to the jetty. A two-lap, five-mile race course was decided on and seven boats participated in the festivities. When the race was pau, we all went back to the clubhouse to tally the results over burgers & beer. Find the Race Results here. Pictures by Sea here.

Nawiliwili Yacht Club enjoyed its Change of Watch Party on January 16th and formally installed its Board of Directors for 2010. Click on the picture  and see our new Commodore Bruce Heckman, Vice Commodore Terry Wells, Rear Commodore Jim Saylor, Fleet Captain Carl Stepath, Port Captain Ken Dorland, Treasurer Dick Olsen, Secretary Mavis Aiu (not pictured) and Directors Bill Georgi and Carol Marsh. We enjoyed a delicious prime rib dinner prepared by our own Dick Olsen and Rick Schunk and had a lovely evening of dining and dancing. Click here to see the pictures of the evening.

The Year-End Trophy Party was a great party. Nearly 70 party goers, NYC members and their guests, enjoyed a delicious barbecued pork roast dinner cooked by our very own resident chef Dick Olsen and his wife Liz. Party Chair Marcie Millett outdid herself and decorated the clubhouse in a festive mode. Attendees were allowed to reserve tables by boat, so eight of the ten tables were occupied by skippers and crew of our individual race boats. Pam Zerker of Coyote provided a picture slide show of the season's races for an interesting backdrop. See pictures of the evenings trophy presentations here.
