Please bring your own grill food for the barbie and a potluck side-dish to share with your mates. We are a little short-handed this time so if you can arrive at about 1400 and help set the party up at the pavilion, that would be very appreciated. NYC will provide essentials (plates, utensils, condiments, etc.) and a cooler of cold beverages (a limited supply) so bring your own if you can. Those of you who have spent the Summer at Hanalei – please think about joining us for the race home to Nawiliwili on Monday – if it isn't too early to tear yourself away from the beautiful North Shore. Lloyd Rees Memorial Series . . . Begins Thursday, September 16 This six-race series will be the last series of the 2010 racing season. Sailing Instructions will be posted online before the series begins. The series was noticed in the August newsletter. There are no special requirements; just show up and race and party at the clubhouse after the race. This memorial series honors the father of Marty Ellis. Lloyd Rees was a Lifetime Member of the Nawiliwili Yacht Club and he passed away last year. We have a DVD of his 1953 TransPac race in his yacht YO HO HO and will be showing it on the DVD at the clubhouse at the after-race party during the series. Third Friday Dance Party . . . Friday, September 17 Please join us for the monthly dance party from 8-11pm at the NYC clubhouse. Our DJ has excellent music and teaches a 30-minute dance lesson at 8pm so we can all learn new steps. These dances are next to the ocean, and many people have been attending. Our dance floor is great, and we all HAVE FUN, and meet new people. $5.00 donation for friends and guests, and free for yacht club members. Please – no one under 21 unless accompanied by an adult, and BYOB. For information call Carl at 808-384-6114. Halloween Race & Costume Party. . . Sunday, October 31 It's coming up really fast, folks. Dear NYC Voting Members, >> Our last General Membership Meeting of the year has been scheduled for Saturday, November 13th. You will get more details on the venue in the October newsletter. This message speaks to YOU and the needs of the Club. >> We will be electing a new Rear Commodore at this meeting. We need to hear from you if you have an interest in serving in this position in 2011. Serving in this position is a three-year commitment to the Club. After your year as RC you automatically move up to Vice Commodore and then Commodore in the following years, after which your status becomes Staff Commodore for as long as you remain a club member. Past Staff Commodores are welcome to apply. >> At this meeting we will also be electing the following officers: Port Captain, Fleet Captain, two Directors, a Secretary and a Treasurer. Please contact our Commodore Bruce Heckman (651-5930) and tell him if you want to help us out in any of these positions. You will need to attend monthly Board meetings and may be responsible to oversee some committees that fall under your area of responsibility. >> We also need member volunteers to serve as chairs for several of our most important committees. FUND RAISING: Come up with new money making ideas and a plan to implement them. MEMBERSHIP: Plan membership drives or perhaps take over the club's database custody & control. PUBLICITY: See that our events are advertised in the free community calendars and submit press releases to The Garden Island when necessary. KEIKI FISHING TOURNAMENT: Coordinate this event. Send out requests for prize donations and follow up by phone to be sure the donations get delivered. PARTIES & SOCIAL EVENTS: Plan monthly theme parties to peak the interest and participation of our diverse membership. >> WE NEED YOU. Too few members are doing too much work. Please volunteer your help with the management of this organization. MAHALO.
